We are passionate about your wellness but we also how you feel about yourself. We have many patients that come in on a regular basis for routine Botox® and Juvéderm’s® procedures to look and feel younger. Both of these agents are safely administered by a board certified physician. Many patients ask what is the difference between Botox and Juvéderm. Though the two may seem similar in that they treat wrinkles and soften the aging process, they have different effects. Therefore, it is important to understand the difference between Botox and Dermal Fillers (Juvéderm) when it comes to choosing the right treatment for you.

Is Botox or Juvéderm right for you?

The best way to find out if you are a candidate for Botox is to look at yourself in the mirror, and focus on your wrinkles. If you look at your forehead, or the area around your eyes, you will see that you have wrinkles which may seem mild or moderate in nature. Now take notice as you frown or squint your eyes. These wrinkles become deeper and more pronounced. Just consider for a minute how many times per day you are naturally frowning or squinting; you are actively working to deepen these wrinkles!

These are the areas where Botox works best. Botox is actually a diluted paralytic agent which causes weakening of the muscle it is injected into. Therefore, when Botox is  injected into the muscles which have pronounced wrinkles, Botox makes these muscles weaken and relax. Your wrinkles then flatten out. Think of it as as an iron, ironing out wrinkles in a shirt. More importantly, with repeated treatments you start to lose the habit of frowning and squinting which led to the overuse of those muscles in the first place. This way you can actually prevent your wrinkles from getting deeper. A typical Botox treatment lasts 3-4 months. There is no down time and no recovery time. We offer free skin consultations.

Juvéderm is an FDA approved dermal filler uniquely formulated to temporarily decrease the evidence of smile lines, vertical lines and marionette lines on the face. The filler is composed of hyaluronic acid that has been chemically bonded using Hylacross™. Cosmetic results are instantaneous, and the younger appearance achieved in a single Juvéderm treatment can last up to one year, after which time the body safely absorbs the biocompatible gel.
